I'm thankful for: COMBAT CONTROL & the CC FAMILY
11-29-2013 The men, the mission(s) and the bonds. All of those past and present. Now the Family that is Combat Control which includes much, much more than the men and our bond. That is to say the women, children and all the loved ones of those men through time that have been or are CCT.
This post more than the others compels elaboration. Many and I would say vast majority of people have little or no knowledge of the bond of CCT and the CC Family. Many, many military, police, fire and other groups form a bond or es spirit de corp. Each is unique and that bond or value varies individually. For me the bond with the guys prior, during and after my own service is as much and maybe more prevalent each and every day than that bond to my family of origin. Using "more" is probably wrong because the bonds don't compete and aren't measurable. I've long said "CCT made the man...." and "as the Marine recruiting slogan used to say, the change is forever". The Combat Control Family is family in every sense of the word with the partial limitation of biological connection. However, there are biological connections between some of the guys and the cousins of some CCT men's children. (by marriage to sibling sisters). The Family has intertwined bonds of empathy, common experience, loss, love, disagreement etc. just like any large family. Again as in any other family, the feeling of membership may vary in intensity but seldom leaves.
